How to remotely control multiple blinds at the same time

Not only is it very clever to control multiple motorised blinds or a group of awnings at once with a single remote control, it's also very convenient.

Not only is it very clever to control multiple motorised blinds or a group of awnings at once with a single remote control, it's also very convenient. In this article, we will discuss some possibilities.

Roughly speaking, there are two types of remote controls for sun protection:

  • 1-channel remote control: You can connect one awning or a group of awnings (we recommend connecting a maximum of five awnings per group). All awnings in this group close or open at the same time with the push of a button on the remote control.
  • 5-channel remote control: You can control five different awnings or five groups of awnings individually (again, we recommend a maximum of five awnings per group). It is also possible to combine separate products and groups within different channels

The same principle applies to wall controls, although they are usually available in 1-channel or 4-channel versions. Wall controls are mainly intended to control products in the same room and therefore have a slightly smaller range than separate remote controls.

Keep in mind that the sunshades you want to control must all use the same protocol: either RTS or io-homecontrol.

Do you want to control your awnings with a mobile app?

If you prefer to control your awnings with a mobile app, there are several options available.

We recommend that you take a look at our new product: Somfy Connectivity Kit. Here you can choose to control up to 20 different awnings with the RTS or io-homecontrol protocols. The sunshades can be programmed as manual scenes, so you can open or close them all at once at the touch of a button.

Note: Somfy Connectivity Kit does not support sensors or automatic scenes. Also, keep in mind that you'll need a physical remote to add products to the Connectivity Kit.

More possibilities with the Somfy TaHoma switch

If you want to control multiple devices in your home and make them smarter too, TaHoma switch is the best solution. With this smart controller, you can make multiple smart devices and sensors work together. This gives you many different options for planning and automating scenes. This is the main difference with the Connectivity Kit. Take a look at the differences >

Whether you opt for the Connectivity Kit or TaHoma switch, both support voice control via Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Home (there are some limitations for Apple Home, as it doesn't support the one-way RTS protocol).
