Smart Home Network Protocols

A communication protocol acts as a language – a set of rules – that different devices use to exchange information. These protocols can vary in design and use different frequencies to communicate.

Examples of different protocols include RTS, io-homecontrol, Bluetooth, 433 MHz, Thread, Z-Wave, and Zigbee. These protocols cannot communicate with each other directly, but they can work together within a smart home device system using a switchboard, hub, or multi-protocol gateway such as the TaHoma® switch.
